An Insight into C.A.C. Good Women Choir’s Costume!

Depending on how they are used, clothes can be combined and worn to reveal a part of our identity. It is fair to say that clothing and fashion are forms of communication that are exclusive to human beings. Through them, we convey our taste and lifestyles, and acquire a sense of belonging to a group.

The clothes we wear tell stories of our culture and our heritage. That is, things that can’t easily be shrugged on and taken off at will. Tradition is also passed down in the creation and construction of our clothes. The way things are made, the materials, and the process, are all embedded into our communities and cultures.

Every artist be it Secular or Gospel has a peculiar dressing style that is known to be their trademark. This dress code in most case is associated with the Artist style of music and their fans also tries to dress like them.

C.A.C. Good Women Choir Ibadan dress code is peculiar to them in that the C.A.C. Church in Ibadan and District, has a very strict dress code for all their ministers and members. For example, women are not allowed to wear earring, makeup, wear wig/weave on, neck chain, trouser, bangle, short skirt etc.

This formed the basis by which C.A.C. Good Women Choir Ibadan clothing/costume is based. This is because Cultural traditions are a way to pass down important history, beliefs and values while Religious traditions help reinforce connection with the respective deities.

Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression that communicates our identity to the world. The personal style allows us to showcase our personality, interest and values. Fashion can also serve as a means of cultural expression, honouring traditions and preserving heritage.

So to a large extend, C.A.C. Good Women Choir clothing/dressing has always been in line with the authority of the church Supreme Council which found expression in the way the leader of the choir and other choir members dresses.

This is why if we look at the artwork cover of all the albums of C.A.C. Good Women Choir Ibadan, we will see that the dressing conform to the Church’s Council instruction.

Every members of the choir and Mrs. D.A. Fasoyin the arrow head of the choir were consistent with maintaining this identity of the Church through their dressing. At times, they feel out of place and under immense pressure to compromise but because of their resolute to maintain the integrity of the church, they continue to abide by the church instruction.
